Dear Colleagues:

Occasionally I have the good fortune to hear a message that is so compelling I want to share it with my colleagues. If you have been following my posts on the Codman Shoulder Society, you know that I am very interested in the topic of Innovation. It was Einstein who said something very interesting about Innovation and intelligence. So, I would recommend you watch the video by Mo Bhandari, the link to which I am enclosing:

There is currently a crisis of information overload and work distraction that seems to be affecting our potential to be creative. Bhandari focuses on this. Moreover, much research is “me too” and does not change anything.

I hope this makes you think about setting aside time for spontaneous thought and questioning, as we should all remember, the questions are more important than the answers if we are to change anything for our patients (this is my interpretation and not Mo’s words). Prof. Christian Gerber has said “Information is the enemy of Innovation.” By this I think he meant that we spend too much time affirming that what we believe is so, rather than recognizing that much of what we believe will be shown to be incorrect.

Kind Regards,
