The 16th Codman Lecture at the ICSES 2026


Dear Colleagues:
I had the honor of delivering the 16th Codman Lecture at the International Congress on Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (ICSES 2026) in Vancouver. This lecture honors a man who was a passionate advocate for measuring outcomes to improve the quality of care we deliver our patients. He was also a remarkable innovator more than 100 years ago.
Dr. Carter Rowe gave the first Codman Lecture in 1980 at the ICSES meeting in London, and as one of Codman’s last students he summed up this remarkable man in the following way:
