Dear Colleagues:

Enclosed is an announcement regarding the passing of a great surgeon who I had the good fortune to know. Dr. David Altchek was one year ahead of me as a Sports Medicine/Shoulder Fellow at HSS. I got to know him as a “junior” attending. I thought he was such a gifted surgeon that I asked him to operate on my brother-in-law, who did great after surgery. While I didn’t have a close relationship with him after my fellowship, I had the opportunity to watch a gifted surgeon in the early days of shoulder arthroscopy and he inspired me to pursuit of my own skills to become better in my own skills in shoulder arthroscopy.

In addition to being a great surgeon, he had a marvelous sense of humor, was a fantastic athlete, was super smart, and had a beautiful family. I hope all of you who may not have known him read this and ask if you can be inspired by someone like David in your career.

Kind Regards,

Jon “JP” Warner MD
