The Process of Recovery
Dear CSS Colleagues:
The value we create for our patients is, of course, the outcome of their surgical treatment; however, it is also the process of their recovery. Porter and Colleagues wrote about 3 Tiers of Value (See Below). Enclosed is an article we recently published which looked at the process of recovery of our patients who underwent four different shoulder procedures. It is remarkable to see that these “Recovery Curves” demonstrate that the bigger operations, namely TSA and RSA, lead to much faster recovery than the smaller procedures, namely arthroscopic biceps tenodesis and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Knowledge such as this is essential as it may be the basis for improving the process of recovery and also creating AI algorithms which can inform if there are significant deviations from expected recovery which should be managed in such cases.
Kind Regards,
